Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day Hindu festival celebrating Lord Ganesha’s birthday, the elephant-headed God.
Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is honored as the Lord of arts, sciences, and wisdom.
Ganesha is revered as Ganapati or Vinayaka and is considered the God of beginnings and the remover of obstacles.
One legend says Parvati created Ganesha from her body’s dirt, and Shiva gave him an elephant’s head to revive him.
Another legend states Ganesha was created by Shiva and Parvati to help the Devas and combat rakshasas.
Ganesh Chaturthi begins on September 17th this year and is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi.
During the festival, Ganesha idols are worshipped at homes and public places, culminating in their immersion.
The festival is marked by vibrant decorations, devotional songs, and the sharing of sweets, symbolizing joy and unity.
